Children, young people and families

Your family is welcome here

We believe children and young people are not only the church of tomorrow; they are part of the church today. We are glad to welcome every family, whatever their background, and we want each person in it to feel safe and at home.

Children

Children are welcome

Jesus never saw children as a nuisance; he called them to himself and blessed them. Following his example, we want to welcome your children too.

Your children are welcome at our weekly meeting. We don’t expect them to be perfectly quiet, or to understand everything. Having them with us is a joy to us.

We want children to hear about God’s love in a way that suits their age, and to grow up knowing they have a place in the church family.

Arrangements for children can vary from time to time, so do ask us before you visit and we’ll let you know what is currently available.

“Allow the little children to come to me! Don’t forbid them, for God’s Kingdom belongs to such as these.”

Mark 10:14

Young people

Our heart for young people

The teenage and young adult years are full of questions and decisions. We want to walk alongside young people through them, with friendship, prayer and God’s Word.

Many young Arabs in Britain live between two cultures and two languages. We understand that challenge, and we want the church to be a place where young people can ask questions freely, be listened to with respect, and discover faith for themselves.

We encourage young people to take part in the life of the church, to use their gifts in serving others, and to build a personal relationship with Jesus Christ.

If you are a young person, or you have a son or daughter at this stage of life, have a chat with us to find out what is currently happening for young people at the church.

“Let no man despise your youth; but be an example to those who believe, in word, in your way of life, in love, in spirit, in faith, and in purity.”

1 Timothy 4:12

Families

Walking with families

Home is the first place where children learn faith. We want to encourage parents and stand with them in this calling.

Faith at home

We encourage parents to read the Bible and pray with their children in simple ways, as part of everyday life and not only at church.

A bigger family

Many people in Britain live far from parents and relatives. We want your family to find friends, support and real fellowship at church.

Prayer and care

Every family goes through hard times. You can ask us to pray, or talk to our pastor about whatever is weighing on your family.

“These words, which I command you today, shall be on your heart; and you shall teach them diligently to your children…”

Deuteronomy 6:6–7

Safeguarding

Our commitment to safeguarding children and young people

Your children’s safety matters more to us than any activity. We take safeguarding seriously, because we believe every person is made in the image of God and deserves safety and dignity.

  • We are committed to safeguarding children, young people and adults at risk in everything we do.
  • We are committed to choosing those who serve with children and young people carefully, and to requesting a DBS check at the right level for the role wherever one is required or permitted.
  • We ask that children stay in their parents’ care, unless something different has been clearly agreed with you.
  • We take any concern raised with us seriously, and deal with it in line with our safeguarding policy, working with the relevant authorities when needed.

If a child or anyone else is in immediate danger, call the emergency services on 999.

Questions from parents

Questions parents often ask

Can I bring my children to the meeting?

Yes, and we’d love you to. Children of all ages are welcome at our weekly meeting. You’ll find the time and place on our meetings page.

Is there a children’s activity during the meeting?

Arrangements vary from time to time. Message us before you visit and we’ll let you know what is currently available, so you know what to expect when you come.

What if my child cries or can’t sit still?

Please don’t worry; we know children will be children. Take your time, and you can always ask any of us if you need anything.

My children speak more English than Arabic. Will they understand?

Our meeting is in Arabic, and we use English when needed. This is familiar to many Arab families in Britain, so do let us know and we’ll help your children feel at ease.

Is there anything for teenagers and young people?

Young people are at the heart of our church, and we welcome them to take part in the weekly meeting and in the life of the church. Have a chat with us to find out what is currently happening for young people.

We are not a Christian family. Can we still come?

Yes. We welcome families from every background. Nothing will be asked of you or your children, and you are free to come, listen and ask questions.

How do you keep children safe at church?

We follow a clear safeguarding policy and take care in choosing those who serve with children. You can read the details in our safeguarding policy, or ask the church leadership any questions you have.

My child has special needs. What should I do?

Let us know in advance, by WhatsApp or phone, what your child needs, and we’ll talk honestly with you about what we can arrange. You can also have a look at our accessibility page.

We’d love to get to know your family
